Hopefully we'll see Fusion in the next comic and learn about her official SAS assignment.

shouldn't they weave whatever Tangled lies they're going to tell Savon's parents about her duties for the internship?

They don't really need much in the way of lies. It isn't required for them to tell anyone what Savunn's job is exactly. She's an intern, they do all sorts of things. And by leaving the job description appropriately vague, she doesn't have to lie to her folks. She really is interning in whatever fashion the boss requires.

No one has to know there is a costume involved.

Exactly what Tolrick said. Plus, this is just supposed to be an interview. If/when they have to come up with an appropriate story, you can be sure they'll do that.

So far, the most surprising part of this particular revelation is the understanding the SAS has covert operatives on such a scale.
Dandy is a criminal and thief of considerable skill. It would be one thing to see him as a confidential informant for Brooder or just as an occasional source a la Catwoman... But by apparently being well placed in the SAS to be assigned as a mentor to a new member??
On top of numerous other implications, this also says the squeaky-clean Stupendous Man knows about this sort of thing.
You can't think anyone would accept the Riveter and Stupendous aren't aware of all the members of their own team.
Ergo they both know Dandy is a member, and is highly placed enough to mentor new members.

Personally I think he is a poor choice. A person's mentor should have more in common with the student unless Brooder thinks Dandy's mentality will rub off on Fusion.

Dandy-Lion isn't Fusion's mentor--he's here on other business. You'll get a bit more explanation in the coming pages.

In which case he just revealed her identity to a criminal. He may trust Dandy, but that is still one hell of a breach of confidence.

The confidence will go both ways by the end of the issue.

Well as I'm waiting for today's page to pop to the top of the stack, I think I will speculate. Richard knows Adam, Adam knows most everyone. Richard isn't SAS. Rosie (can't remember if we've heard Riviter's given name) probably wouldn't make a great mentor because she has other duties that would get in the way. Fusion has a power set that puts her in League with Stupendous, but I don't see him taking this on either. As a result, I think the new mentor is somebody we have not yet seen.
